An Evening with Alex Williams MBE
February 23, 2024 @ 19:30 - 22:00
Former Manchester City goalkeeper Alex Williams is a friend of the stars and a man of the people. Pals include Noel and Liam Gallagher, both star-struck teenagers in the early 1980s when Alex was their hero and kept goal at Maine Road.
Alex tells how he has crossed paths with the brothers on many occasions while leading the club’s trail-blazing community scheme, inspiring back street kids like him to turn their lives around. Alex also endured horrific racism as the first modern-day black goalkeeper in England.
He courageously reached the top before an injury he kept secret from team-mates ended his playing career in 1987 at the age of 25. His amusing, entertaining and revealing stories are contained in his autobiography You Saw Me Standing Alone.
Join us at Glossop North End Clubhouse to hear Alex Williams talk about his incredible life. Copies of his book will be available to purchase on the nigh
